Thirty players attended the Christmas Part on 8^th December 2007. Thanks to Wendy, Doreen, Teresa, Tricia for the food, Dennis for the drinks and Peter for the tickets.

Mary France won the event. Her score was helped by bidding and making seven no trumps. This effort also won her the prize for bidding and making the first slam.	Wendy Thomas won the prize for the total score that was closest to zero.	John Glover also wanted to win the prize for the total score that was closest to zero and, playing with his father on the last board, pushed him to six clubs. Nine off would have secured Tim a score of exactly zero. He was only able to go eight down; but this effort gained John the booby prize.	The final prize was awarded by drawing a card. The four of diamonds equated to number 17; the number of the card owned by Mike Voyce. Prizes were presented by Santa who had won the prize for taking a trick with the two of clubs.

The club AGM was held on May 23^rd. A draft programme to see us through to the summer of 2008 was announced and members asked for comment. The programme will be ratified by the first committee after the AGM. After the AGM members competed for the Helen Doughty Memorial Trophy. The winners were Terry Downs & Laurence Popple. Their score of 65.00% was sufficient to take the lead for the highest increase in average percentage for May but Win Stocker and Pam Leeson’s score of 65.28% retains the lead for the highest percentage score of May. Win Stocker and Pam Leeson scored 65.28% to take the lead for the highest percentage score of May; Cynthia & Dave McLoughlin retain the lead for the highest increase in their average percentage in May. Numbers were slightly down; this was because several pairs were representing Glenfield in the regional final of the Garden Cities Trophy. Glenfield finished seventh in a strong field of nine teams.

The LCBA AGM follows on June 6^th. Glenfield players with prizes to collect include Jenny Grant & Bharat Thakrar, who won the Stanley Trophy for expert pairs and Bob Parker & Gerry Bucciero who were third in the Stanley. These two pairs joined forces to come fourth in the Joyce Cup (Pivot Mixed Teams). Keith Preston & Greta Cole won the amateur pairs. The Wilde Cup was won by Dennis Yates, Phil Bennett, Michael & Valerie Bull. Brenda Coltman, Rat Le Vesconte, John Thompson and Alan Lord came second in the Leicestershire Cup. Peter Neville & Tim Glover were second in the Buckby Cup (Men’s Pairs), third in the Jones Trophy (handicap pairs) and, with Clarendon team-mates, were beaten in the final of the Joseph’s Bowl. No prizes to collect at the LCBA but Leicestershire players also did well in the Barkby charity swiss teams; Bob Parker and Gerry Bucciero were part of the team that came second and Roger & Rene Berrington were in the third-placed team.

It is with sadness that I record the death of Dennis Yates who passed away after an operation on 5^th April 2007. Dennis did much to serve Leicestershire Bridge; being the league secretary for many years. We are proud that in his last season he played for Glenfield.

In the latest round of the league matches, Glenfield Bridge Centre A beat Spencefield 11-1. Bharat Thakrar and Jenny Grant achieved the best analysis. The A team are fourth in the league and, with two matches still to play, have secured their division one status for next season already. This is a fine achievement and we look forward to better things next year. Thanks are due to all of the players and the B team captain who has released players, often at short notice, to support the A team. Their own results have suffered as a result and, in the latest match, Glenfield Bridge Centre B lost 8-4 to Golf to remain in eighth place in division three. Glenfield Bridge Centre C beat Loughborough University 8-4 and are in eighth place in division four. Glenfield Bridge Centre D did not play. They are seventh in division five.
